Media Release: TBDSSAB Recognizes Social Work and Social Service Workers Week 2025
March 4, 2025 – March 3 to 9, 2025 is Social Work and Social Service Workers Week in Ontario. The theme for 2025 is, “Wherever you are, so are we”.
#SocialWorkers are here for Ontarians in everyday places, on their toughest days, in small towns, big cities, and everywhere in between. Because wherever you are, #SoAreWe.
– Ontario Association of Social Workers
This SW & SSW Week, The District of Thunder Bay Social Services Administration Board (TBDSSAB) is reflecting on our social assistance programs team.
Since 1999, the delivery of provincial social assistance programs (currently Ontario Works) has been the responsibility of District Social Services Administration Boards (DSSABs) and Consolidated Municipal Service Managers (CMSMs). Though DSSABs and CMSMs are service system managers for community housing, homelessness prevention, child care, and EarlyON services in their districts, social assistance programs continue to be regulated by the Ontario Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS).

This SW & SSW Week, we give our thanks to the social workers, social service workers, and all the helpers involved in delivering social assistance programs across the District of Thunder Bay. Thank you to the TBDSSAB Integrated Social Services team for your dedication and compassion to the people we serve. Thank you to the partners who support our communities through programming that is person-centered and meets people where they are. We are grateful to be part of a community of social services champions that step up to address the needs of people in our community.
Quotes:
“On behalf of the Board, thank you to the TBDSSAB Integrated Social Services team for all that you do to enrich the lives of the people we serve. The Board recognizes that supporting those in need in our community strengthens our community, and that reaching out to help our neighbours is always a good action. The Board will continue to support efforts to encourage investments in supporting those in need to improve their quality of life and to provide towards self-sufficiency and independence.” – Jim Vezina, Chair, TBDSSAB
“SW & SSW Week is an opportunity to reflect on the people behind social services. Our team includes a mix of social workers, social service workers, and other backgrounds—but this week we celebrate them all for choosing the social services path. It takes a team of great people with big hearts to deliver social services.”– Ken Ranta, CEO, TBDSSAB
